Ford Mustang GT Premium Fastback 2015
America’s premier pony car celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2014, and Ford celebrated this occasion by introducing the all-new sixth-generation model. Unlike previous versions of the Mustang that were only available in limited markets, Ford decided to share the wealth and marketed the new car to more than 120 countries.
The designers at Dearborn took extreme care in styling the new Mustang, making it appear more aggressive than any model before it, but making sure that it would still be instantly recognizable as Mustang upon first glance. The engineers took the same tact, giving the car a great balance of efficiency and power. They brought back the inline-4 of Mustangs past, but after bolting on a turbocharger, the base 2.3-liter engine pumped out a hearty 309 HP / 235.7 ft-lb to the delight of sports car fans worldwide. But the star of the show was the thundering Mustang GT’s 5.0-liter V-8, which people expected from a powerful American muscle car. And it didn’t disappoint, delivering a whopping 434 HP / 295.1 ft-lb, making it among the most powerful Mustangs ever.
The new pony car also featured a fine-tuned fully independent suspension system (previous odels came with a rear beam axle). It was clear to see from this rebirth of the modern-day pony car that the Mustang was no longer only an American icon, but an international one.
