Alfa Romeo 4C Gr. 3
While Alfa Romeo produced a number of mid-engine race cars in its day, the 4C, introduced in 2013, represents the marque’s first mass-production car that features the performance-minded layout.
Alfa Romeo engineers stressed weight reduction when developing this high-performance sports car. They installed a carbon monocoque structure that weighs only 143 lbs, and mated it a lightweight aluminium subframe. Also helping to keep the car’s curb weight low is the 1,742 cc aluminium engine block that’s 49 lbs lighter than its steel counterpart found in the Giulietta. As a result, the 4C tips the scales at lean 1,973 lbs.
